World breastfeeding week was started in 1992 to generate public awareness and support for breastfeeding. It is officially celebrated on 1-7 August every year.
The United States Breastfeeding Committee, formed in 1995 to coordinate breastfeeding activities in the U.S., officially set aside August as National Breastfeeding Month.
Goals:
što highlight the importance of breastfeeding;
što encourage and promote breastfeeding;
što improve the health of babies and mothers all around the world.
What can I tell you about my personal experience? I breastfed my daughter up to 1 year. It was my own decision according my plans and circumstances.
It should have been easy for me because I was not only pediatrician but also a lactation consultant, but.. I went through 2 mastitis with taking antibiotics for 14 days. I had hyperlactation and it was so difficult to manage, but we did it! I say āWEā since my daughter did her 50% of work on it.
And despite all this I want to tell you that it was the best time I had with my daughter! And if I could turn back time, I would still like to repeat it. It is such a natural and intimate process for the two of us that I will always remember!
